I've been an avid supporter of Hammond Organs for many years since the 1970's when I owned a Hammond T202, which I personally did a split job on because moving it, in it's original state, was impossible for just one person I used this for many years including a residency at Lakeside Country Club Frimley. WHen I eventually sold this I then purchased a XB2 from a shop in Basingstoke Hampshire which I again used with a Hohner String performer which I purchased for the residency at Lakeside for some years but the XB2 fell out of favour when I purchased my Yamaha PSR9000 MKII which I am still using to this day. Unfortunately on checking my XB2 (2009) I now find it does not power on for some unknown reason. I have since purchased a Hammond Super SX-1 for home use with which I am well pleased. I did however at the tail end of 2009 purchase an old Hammond B200, along with masses of spare part which I shall be selling soon on ebay, for stage use which has not really come up to expectation and I expect to be selling asap far too heavy - not really the portable I was expecting - heaven knows how Hammond could ever have described this model as a portable beats me.

fantastic site ! pure hammond !!!! whilst on holiday in spain ,we stumbled across gary baldwin ( of the gary baldwin trio ronnie scotts allstars ) keeping the hammond dream alive on the costa del sol. he has a bar called the BLACK CAT CHILL OUT BAR which is in BENALMADENA COSTA in the los porches area. gary plays every fri sat sun with a mix of hammond jazz and latin vibe !!! what a night for free ... this bar is a must.. thanks for the site madds

Hammond is a timeless name...I was the proud owner of a Hammond A100 and Leslie 147RV until it got to be to much to move around from house to house and gig to gig, so they got sold, now I am kicking myself in the ass....just a little bit of advice, if you have them, keep them, you will kick yourself in the end after they are gone.

We own a cream-colored Hammond Super CX 2000 that was owned by the jazz musician Louis Prima and his wife Keely Smith, at their beach house in New Jersey, USA. We bought it but never really used it and also it seems to have a volume issue. Since we are not organ experts we are unsure what is needed to fix it. I would love to find a collector who would appreciate it for its historic value and/or would be interested in restoring it. It's actually in beautiful condition and has original Louis Prima handwritten notes and stuff stored in the bench. I toured with several groups in the sixties and early seventies. Had a B-3 and two 122 beefed up leslies with a fender Rhodes on top. My back is giving me trouble due the the many times lifting and my right ear is a little weak due to loud sounds. However I will state it was the best instrument made! I still do not believe they have completely captured the true analogue sounds of the 3 yet. Getting closer all the time. Keep up the good work!

Every discerning progressive keyboard player we had used a Hammond B3 and Leslie speakers. To this day it is my favourite sound to listen to. Great bands like Steppenwolf;Gypsy and Vanilla Fudge are still some of my favourites to listen to. What great listening pleasure over the years. One still will hear a song,today and first thing that catches the ear and makes you smile is THAT SOUND! Thanks folks for a beautiful sound and something I have CHERISHED through the years! Nothing compared/compares with it even today. It is a joy to still be playing, and have a young musician walk into the studio and ask right off, " How do I dial up the HAMMOND/LESLIE sound on this keyboard synth!?! I found your web site and was intrigued. . Would you like to have another organ to sell on your site? . Our mother passed away last fall and we have this organ with no home about 300 miles away from where I am now. . It is a one-owner organ, twenty-some years old, was played with loving care when it was new and not "hammered" on. . It's from near the end of the Hammond Organ Company life-cycle, from the early 80's as a manufacture date per the packing slips. . The serial number is 1121231; the Model number is 333272; the name of the model is the Colonnade, per the original paperwork we found. . Recently my church purchased the XK3. As a church organist for 25 plus years, I absolutely LOVE it!!! We have it connected to two Leslie speakers on each side of the church and the sound is awesome. Our style is Pentecostal and Evangelistic. Nothing compares in a church service to a Hammond playing.

24 Carat Purple are one of the UK's leading Deep Purple tribute bands. Until recently we were fortunate to have the services of fully accredited Hammond player Phil Burns. Unfortunately, due to other music and family commitments, Phil has had to leave the band so we're looking for a replacement who is at least up to his standard. We're not full time and may only do 10-12 gigs a year, so don't mind if you have other music commitments. Hopefully we can find someone who would like to play with us due to a love of Deep Purple and/or Jon Lord. I play an s6 now.I played my A-102 through a 122 for up to 5 hours a day for several years, but I actually preferred over the Leslie 122, my hodgepodge of the speaker out into a transformer that converted the speaker signal to a line level. I ran this through an E.Q. and then a slight compression. From there through a nice sounding mono- EICO into a dual 5" Wirlitzer (sp?) vericle spinning rotary speaker with the cover off and the spinning speakers laid on their side. I used a variac type of voltage reducer to speed and slow the motor on the spinning speakers. I LOVED IT. It's a long story, but I lost that set-up. Then 3 years later out of nowhere a woman gave me an s6 that she had inherited from her aunt. She asked me if I could play it one day when I was raking her leaves. I said,"I'll try. Man, it was awkward, but I managed to get it singing out. She was impressed and gave it to me. After about a week or two I began to really get it. I like it more than the tonewheels in many ways. I've been playing it for 3 years now. I REALLY want the bass pedals ( All two of them) to work. I CAN hear the signal, but it's a higher register tone that's barely audible. The bass is not there. If I press 2 keys here and there on the 'BUTTON ARRAY' I do hear very faintly again a BASS tone. You know the LOW LOW BASS like it's supposed to have. I know my tube electronics and I need a real schematic. I just have the 'on chassis parts placement' and the component numbers at those locations. No part values or real schematic. Oh', by the way, the reverb on the s6 is great! I just need the bass. Please help! paul J.

I'm in St.Louis, Mo USA and I have a Hammond Piper Autochord 100/30 if anyone wants it ... I got it for free myself and I would like it to see it be used ... it has simple manuals for the Organ and the variable speed cassette player as well as 5 song books ... it works but needs electronic tweeking ... it sat in a basement for years ... I tested it and the speakers seem ok so do the keys and various sliders and tab controls ... it needs some basic TLC ... PLEASE contact me if you know of a good home for it ... Thanks Tom Oh !

Hi all, i've got a hammond XB 2 that has a serious problem. When you press a key, there's an arpeggiator like sound that goes crazy and plays octaves mixed with clicking noise and chaos. i've replaced the main chipset by upgrading to vers. 2 but it did not help. Any help or suggestions??? Thanks!

I own a very old T series Hammond that was originally the Hatch Memorial Shell Hammond for the Boston Pops and has a beautiful brass sign indicating the date of donation in the 1940's The front is carved wood and I am wondering if it has historical value. It was going to be destroyed but I salvaged it years since the Hatch Memorial Shell was rennovated. I have never gotten a signal out of it but the tone generator runs ans it seems to be in operating condition otherwise. Any thoughts or comments are appreciated.

My freind would like to sell her hammond, we don't know what model it is unfortunately, but it has 2 sets of keys, top and bottom, the wood looks really nice if any one would like to buy it or make any more enquiries you can ring her on 01706 711868 which is her direct line at work, she starts at 9.00 and finishes at 4.30. Her husband bought it on a whim really for Ł100, but I'm sure you would get a good price as she wants it out of the front room. They've had it a year and he's never learned how to play it.

Dear Darren, Ignore the last reply with my e-mail address in it because a prankster friend of my brother's was over at my house yesterday and did something to get on my screen name. I know everyone has been pranked sooner or later in life and I was a victim of that. By the way, Darren's a cool name because it's the first name of the mortal husband of Bewitched. Okay, now why I adore the Hammond and it's many sounds. I love the Hammond because it's so widely used and I am just adoring the many sounds it can make. I love the "C" models because they sound so cute. Being a teenybopper if I could compare it to a singer, it would be Amy Jo Johnson (pink power ranger) because they both can sound so strong and beautiful. Also, I love the show Batman and if you listen carefully, you can hear it in a lot of the show's music. By the way, I love all the Hammond players because they're so talented, strong, and such postive influences. My favorite is Shirley Scott. Her early stuff I love the best because I adore cute sounds she makes. It sort of sounds like twinkling. Jimmy Smith is another favorite because all of his stuff rules. Even though he's gone, he put out so much good stuff. Peace and love to all the fans. I just love this funky thing so much!=)

Hello, here is a little miracle. I found an Hammond ((Belgium 7122 ??)ser.No. 1971 I believe))outside a secondhand store. It was standing there for 3 day's outside the store. It rained severely in those 3 day's. I asked the ownwer if I could take it, he siad oke we didn't even look at it because it was soaked. I took it home and with nothing to lose just put in the plug....Switched it on.... the lesley started.......the first sounds emerged out of this monster prosumed dead....the first key's pressed, THIS WAS THE BEST GIFT OF 2005 !!!!!! The angels travel with Hammonds !!!

Earl (skip) Cooper I have been in bands most of my life and if I didn't have a Hammond I was using something that was trying to sound like one and I do mean trying. I am 51 now and have to stop playing do to sickness. I don't want to stop completly but do need some help. I have a Hammond X5 that I bought on ebay and when it got to me it had some of the keys broken off. I need to find someone that might have the first two group of keys one the top set of keys so I can put this back up flying. I know I can't go back to playing but having a Garage Band would keep me making noise and besides, I have a guy across the street that I want to drive crazy. I may be getting older but still listen to the bad side of me now and then. ;o)> If anyone out there has, or knows where I can pick up the keys to get me going again please give me a hand. i found a PIPER AUTOCHORD in the trash a few months back. i was very pleased to find out that it was still fully funtionalwhen i got it home! anyway , after a few months of fun, it started to emit the that loud buzzing mention in the last post when turned on. i couldnt fix it by wiggling wires and banging on it, so i decided to remove the power amp and use it as a guitar amp. after i disconnected the volume pedal. the buzz/hum was gone! i wired in a old chorus board i got out of a yamaha guitar amp i also found in the trash some years ago. i managed to keep the reverb intact but used a different spring box that gave more effect. now its a nice clean sounding guitar amp with chorus and reverb! i dont have a schematic or anything, but i have figured out the basic in/outputs of the power amp module, if anyone can use this info, send me an email at billyeubank@aol.com . to the guy with the last post, check the volume pedal, it contains a cylinder with a light bulb at one and a photoe-elctric element at the other with an adjustable shade in the middle. as the pedal is pushed down the shade is opened and more light hits the photoelement and turns up the volume, the only thing in my volume pedal i didnt test was the photoelement, so i would say check that as your source of unwanted noise. good luck and have fun !

I own a 1959 A-100 with a leslie 147. The A-100 was rebuild to be "portable" and added tubes and stuff for more "Rawrrr"! Sadly it was introduced to the wrong kind of oil and lies in 10.000 pieces at the mechanic. Bought an Acetone to Play while living without my baby... and it sounds f*********** GREAT! vewy vewy nice site too :)

I had the privilege of knowing several of the New York soap opera musical directors, and I would like to share my experiences with one, in particular, Charles Frederick Paul ("Charlie" Paul) who worked on "As the World Turns", "Guiding Light", "Love of Life", and "The Secret Storm" in addition to having written theme songs and background music for other shows. Back in 1971, I wrote a letter to him at CBS, telling him how much I loved his theme songs and background organ music. I suggested that I visit him at the studio, play the songs by ear for him, and perhaps get copies of the sheet music. He wrote back and invited me to the CBS Broadcast Center at 530 West 57 Street in Manhattan (between 10th and 11th Avenues). I was very excited about my impending visit which took place in June 1971. As I approached the second floor rehearsal hall where we were to meet, I heard the closing theme song for "Love of Life" louder than I had ever heard it before. I waited outside the rehearsal hall for the music to finish. When it did, I knocked on the door. Mr. Paul opened the door, and I introduced myself. He welcomed me into a large room where there were a bunch of tables and chairs, a Conn Artist organ, and a Steinway piano. I thanked him for having answered my letter, and for having invited me to the CBS Broadcast Center. We spoke a bit, and then he demonstrated his technique of playing the piano and organ simultaneously. He let me try to play his theme songs by ear. He complimented me on my arrangements. I asked him if he would be able to provide me with copies of the sheet music. He said that they had never been published in printed form, but that, when he had time, he would write them out by hand for me. In separate mailings later that year, he sent me copies of the handwritten scores of the theme songs for "As the World Turns" and "Guiding Light", and then, on a later visit in June 1972, his daughter, Pamela, let me borrow the score for the "Love of Life" theme which he had prepared for her who was substituting for him while he was on vacation, and make a photocopy of it. Backtracking a little bit, it was on December 20, 1971, that I visited Mr. Paul again in the rehearsal hall to demonstrate how my playing of "As the World Turns" and "Guiding Light" had vastly improved based on his having provided me with the handwritten scores. He invited me to stay for the entire taping of "Love of Life". I believe the episode was #5264. I know I have the script (which he gave me) somewhere around the house, as well as an audio cassette tape which I made off the television a few days later when the show aired. While the show was being performed several blocks away at a different CBS studio (the one which later was converted into the famous discotheque, Studio 54), Mr. Paul was watching the action closed-circuit over a black-and-white monitor, listening to the dialog and cues through a headset, turning through the script, and playing the theme and background music at the appropriate times. For me, it was practically a religious experience to sit there, and hear some of my favorite soap opera music being performed live in the very room where I was personally present. After he finished with "Love of Life", he said he now had to go into Studio 42 (one of the second-floor studios at 530 West 57 Street) to play the music for "As the World Turns", and invited me to see what the setup was like over there. At "As the World Turns", he played the music right from the soundstage, in back of the sets. He had a Steinway piano, a Hammond B-3 organ, a Simone celeste, a black-and-white monitor, microphones pointed at each of the musical instruments, and a headset. (The celeste was used for the bell-like sounds during the middle break music and the long closing theme.) He took me to the control room and introduced me to the producer, Fred Bartholomew (who was the former child actor, "Freddie" Bartholomew), and then discussed some things with him about the day's music. He introduced me to Jack Winsche and to some of the other control room personnel. We walked back to the soundstage, and he told me that I could walk around until the live show started, but that once it started, I should just sit on the end of the organ bench and be very quiet. I spoke with a cameraman, Fred Bliss, who demonstrated how to zoom in on Eileen Fulton with a Norelco color camera. In the day's episode, #4068, Eileen had just returned from several weeks off the show during which time "Lisa" had gone on a buying trip to Chicago. I saw Helen Wagner doing some knitting on "Nancy's" and "Chris' " porch. I saw Tiberia Mitri (Betsy) lying in a hospital bed. I saw Don MacLaughlin (Chris), John Colenback (Dan), Marie Masters (Susan), Donna Wandrey (Barbara), Peter Brandon (Don), Dean Santoro (Paul), Ethel Remey (Alma), and Geraldine Court (Jennifer) walking back and forth, talking with each other, or perhaps running their lines. I inspected the artificial snow machine (in which the simulated snow, in reality bits of oaktag, would fall from a tray) and the chemical fireplace. Then, the announcements started, "Ten minutes to air...Five minutes to air...Two minutes to air...One minute to air...Thirty seconds to air...Five seconds to air." When cued, Mr. Paul hit an octave consisting of two A's (played as a whole-note chord) on the Steinway piano, and then began a quick organ scale consisting of a series of 24 thirty-second notes A B C# D E F# G A B C# D E F# G A B C# D E F# G A B C# leading into the whole-note organ chord DF#AD which began the opening theme. Again, it was practically a religious experience for me sitting on the organ bench, taking in the atmosphere of a live television program, and listening to a song that I had heard for so many years on television being played right before my very eyes (and ears)!!! The live episode went by so incredibly smoothly. During the middle break, Mr. Paul played the Simone celeste. He had some old script pages stuffed into the pedal area to keep the pedal depressed so that the bell-like sounds would sustain. I remember that John Colenback (Dan) and Marie Masters (Susan) were having a very serious scene which ended with some harsh words, but when the show normally faded to black before the commercial, Mr. Paul's monitor still showed the image from the very last camera that had been on the air, and now John and Marie were smiling at each other. I remember that the day's episode ended with Tiberia Mitri's (Betsy's) eyes fluttering open in the hospital room as she was showing signs of coming out of her coma. (Betsy had been in a coma for several weeks after having fallen out of a treehouse, I believe.) After Mr. Paul finished playing the closing theme, a voice came out of speakers in the studio saying, "Good show!" I visited Mr. Paul on other occasions at "As the World Turns" and also at a downtown studio at 221 West 26 Street where "Guiding Light", then called "The Guiding Light", was taped. At "Guiding Light", Mr. Paul worked out of a second-floor music room, which he referred to as a "fishbowl studio", which had a big glass window which overlooked the soundstage. For that show, he used a Steinway piano, a Conn Artist organ, and I don't remember whether or not he had a celeste in the room. Mr. Paul and I remained friendly over the years until he passed away from Parkinson's Disease in 1990.

i am a hammond organ player in los angeles mentored by the late great jimmy smith . thats my c-3 on dotcom blues, it was Jimmy's favorite of all his hammonds (he was very possessive of my instrument!)we had it all fixed up the way he loved it to be. We were best friends for years and I sure miss him! Would always be happy to communicate with Hammond lovers here in LA or planning to visit. Question for you is I am trying to identify a particular type of organ cabinet that appears to be british, do you know anything about the C3 with the flush sides? Love to hear from you, regards Steve Peden (it's a sharper angle to the line than in all the american models of the same years, this sort of silly thing fascinates me, I even asked Keith Emmerson and he said it's a C3 and DeFrancisco says its made in England and they do the cabinets differently on C3's then someone else told me it was a modelG at the Whisky-A-Go-Go one night, do you know anything about this? It is many, many years since I played a Hammond. You tend to think that other manufacturer's keyboards like Roland or the Casio WK3500 has got the sound nailed. Then you listen to the real thing and the hairs on the back of your neck stand on edge. I've got a copy of a 1979 Hammond ad. on my site from Manchester, England if anyone interested.

I'm having a problem with my Xb-2 and I'm wondering if anyone knew what it would be. The organ is not giving full output, playing pretty low, and giving some weird hissing sounds. sounds bad. now this on happens when i have the "leslie" effect selection "on" from the edit menu. when i switch "leslie" to off it sounds fine, but with no leslie. would you know how i would fix this? thanks

Hello. I just got the upgrade for the XB-2. I want to access the presets, as well as create and save some new ones. How do the banks work with the presets? The displays are very cyptic to me (D BANK 5-7- what does THAT mean?). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have an XB2 (bought around '91) that several years ago just stopped working. All the lights come on and the LCD display works but it produces no sound. I took it to a music store and they checked it out but couldn't diagnose the problem. I would really like to use it again. Any suggestions???

My family inherited a Hammond M-111 organ with a Leslie 125/225 speaker about 3 years ago. It worked at one time, but now there is no sound. The Leslie is not hooked up. I don't know if I am turning it on properly. Can someone give the proper sequence for powering up this old girl, I do not have the owners manual. I can't seem to find anyone locally who knows enough to troubleshoot/repair it. Thanks for the gorgeous background (the close up dark one). Worked Hammonds with Leslies for years on the English Club circuits backing cabaret. You arrived fingers crossed. I had the opportunity to revive a M3 for my next door neighbor. Finding the tubes and a tube tester was tough. try bought a t582a in perfect condition at a thift store for $175. Looks like it has a hookup for an external Leslie box. Looking for an owners manual and a recommendation on which Leslie is the hot ticket. All us Hammond geeks are family. give me some feedback. I found a reference to my Hammond - a Romance 123200 series - in your guestbook, and was hoping to find more inforamtion on it. We bought it in the 70's and cannot find any info on what kind of organ it is, in any sites we've tried, since it's a pre-1986 model. It was good to see it listed here, as we were beginning to imagine it was an elaborate forgery of a real Hammond!

Way back in about 1971, we bought a Hammond organ, a simple home model, which is a 123222, with a C serial number, and we had to buy the right type of music books, for a "C" organ. I"ve searched and searched for any info on this model, and all I came up with was a site which had a manual, and also, a notation that it was a 'Romance" model. Can anyone please tell me what kind of organ this is? Any info at all would be most gratefully received. I've rad reams of material, all of which leads me to believe that it's not anything special, but it would be good to know just what kind of instrument it is. And it sounds just as good as the day we bought it, so it can't be too bad! Thanks in advance for any response, from any of you real experts and musicians!

I'm a drummer (55). I can't play keys but have just bought an M100 and 145 Leslie. We play to record with them on our Fat River Band CD. The M100 has a few 'fluffy; notes on some drawbar settings and the bass speaker on the Leslie is not working. But Neither items cost too much and should be fixable with a bit of TLC. Over 20 years ago I worked as a service engineer for Churchills of Bristol for just over a year, in the short time I was there I became a keen Hammond fan. Recently I bought a nearly new XE1 which I am delighted with , having previously owned Eminent & technics. Keep up the good work .

Hello, this is going to be the oddest post ever, but I am researching my family tree and my great grandfather worked for Hammond. I was told he became quite famous for making wooden, hand-finished cabinets. His name was Ozias Arthur Jones and he would have worked in Lousiville, KY. I've played the hammond C3 and then the B-3000 for 35 years now...First on the road with a gospel group and now at a local church. I won't play anything else. There is nothing to compare to the Hammond and Leslie sound. I saw a B-3 being used on the Grammys just last week by guys who probably weren't alive when they quit making them...

Strange question maybe but I'm looking for a giveaway portable Hammond and perhaps its Leslie, the one that has been sitting collecting dust and space and is in need of a good home. er...it's true. All those jokes about hammond organ players? I've become what i mocked. What can i say. I play a T202. Old school. Weighs like four people are buried inside it, so not the best for gigging, but it's a beauty. Picked it up for ?00 from ebay. Perfect for a studio really, so I'm gonna buy a B200 I think and a leslie 822. Any comments from anyone who uses something similar live wud be interesting. I've not played a transistor before. Wonder what they are like live.

More dates of Hammond related concerts or gigs in the UK. I just love the sound of a well played Hammond organ Can't afford one myself. I play a Technics E66 + Korg Synthesiser which has a fairly realistic Hammond like sound + Leslie on one of its tabs. That is the nearest I can get to the sound. Great web page. Cheers

i just found an old sounder organ at a yard sell for free. nothing worked at all. i took it apart and literally jiggled some wires and presto, it now works. would love some more information about this killer little organ. books, parts, history, anything about it would be nice. thanks to all, especially the dude who let this organ go for free.
